Plan your Potluck

Effortless coordination of your event

Organize menus, track guest list and RSVP’s and relax with built in allergy administration. Seamless and collaborative!

How it works

From invite to the last bite

The idea for a potluck app was born after several endless Messenger-threads, where participants kept getting lost in and with the same questions.

Is anybody else bringing salad? Are the vegans covered? Who is going? Where is it at? When?

Knytkalas.net serves to facilitate for any potluck host and guest, keeping the organizational cognitive load to a bare minimum, allocating time and energy to be spent on far more enjoyable things than scrolling for answers in old chats!

Preferences and allergies

Aunt Fatima is vegan and Uncle John is allergic to nuts. No problem! Knytkalas provides easy ways of keeping track of both your guests dietary restrictions and displays dietary flags in the event contributions.

Easy overview

Who is bringing their kids, has Susan responded to her invite, and what is the status of the dessert table? Knytkalas provides a clear overview of your event and all its contributions, so you can focus on enjoying your party!

Skip the doubles

Knytkalas lets the guest communicate what they are bringing and how much of it, flag their contributions for dietary issues and categorize them for easy overview. We don't guarantee well balanced menus on any potluck, but we surely improve the odds!

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-08-21

Knytkalas ("the Service") is a student project built as part of a higher vocational education (in Swedish "Yrkeshögskola, YH") graduation project. This policy explains what personal data is collected when you use it, and how it's handled.

  1. Who is responsible for your data

This Service is operated by Linnéa Toth, who will respond to inquiries regarding your data.
  2. What we collect

    • Account data - When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We do not receive or store your Google password.
    • Session data — To keep you signed in, we store a session token, and, for security purposes, the IP address and browser/device information (user agent) associated with that session.
    • Event data — If you host an event, we store what you enter: The occasion, description, date, location, and response deadline.
    • Guest and invite data — If you invite someone, we store the guest's name, their RSVP status, and how many guests they are bringing.
    • Contribution data — If you or a guest signs up to bring something, we store the dish name, category, servings, and description.
    • Dietary information — You may optionally mark foods you avoid (e.g. dairy, nuts, gluten, shellfish) on your profile, and this can be attached to a contribution. This helps hosts and guests plan food safely. This data is only shown to people involved in the same event.
    • Cookies — We use a single essential session cookie required to keep you logged in. We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies, so no cookie consent banner is shown.
  3. Why we use it

    • To let you sign in and use the Service
    • To let hosts organize events and guests coordinate contributions (contract necessity)
    • To keep the Service secure (legitimate interest — e.g. session/IP logging to detect abuse)
  4. Who we share it with

    • Google — For sign-in (Google Sign-In / OAuth)
    • Neon — Our database provider, which stores the data listed above on our behalf.
    • Vercel — Which hosts the application itself.
We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
  5. How long we keep it

Event and invite data is kept for as long as the event exists, plus a limited period after (or until deleted by the host). Deleting your account removes your account data; contributions tied to a deleted invite are removed as well.
  6. Your rights

    You can:
    • See and edit your profile data at any time from your account.
    • Delete your account, which removes your personal data from our systems (subject to what's needed to keep other users' events consistent, e.g. an event you attended may keep a record that a guest attended without your full profile).
    • Contact us to request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or raise any other data protection question.
    • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Sweden: Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, imy.se).
  7. Children

This Service isn't directed at children and isn't intended for users under 13 (or the minimum age required by Google's own terms).
  8. Changes

We may update this policy as the Service changes. We will update the "last updated" date above when we do.

About

Last updated: 2026-08-21

THIS PROJECT IS STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS, DEADLINE IS IN DECEMBER 2026

Knytkalas.net is my graduation project ("examensarbete") for the Frontendutvecklare React program at Yrkeshögskolan i Borås, A 400 YHp, two-year higher vocational education in frontend and fullstack development. The program covers user experience and interaction design, JavaScript/TypeScript programming, React, app development, agile ways of working, database technology with SQL and MongoDB, and backend programming with Node.js and Express, alongside two internship periods (LIA).

For my degree project, I wanted to build something that solved a problem I have been running into: The chaos of coordinating a potluck over a Messenger thread, where nobody can tell who is bringing what, who is avoiding which ingredient, or who is even coming. Knytkalas is my answer to that.

I also used this project to push past what the curriculum strictly requires. I designed and built the full stack myself: The data model, authentication, and server logic alongside the frontend, with Next.js, TypeScript, Prisma, PostgreSQL, Better Auth and Tailwind. It was a deliberate choice to demonstrate fullstack ability, not just the frontend specialization the program is named for. I also took it a step further into unknown territory, by using different tech than what was covered in the education.

This final project permits AI-assisted work. I have used Claude and Gemini deliberately: As an architecture sounding board, a debugging partner, and a reviewer of my own code. I cherish understanding and craftsmanship; the actual implementation stays mine. On a few narrow, explicitly scoped occasions (restyling specific UI flows to match an established design pattern) I had Claude write and implement the code directly, as a conscious choice to showcase my ability to effectively collaborate with generative AI.

The full source code is public on GitHub: github.com/LinneaToth/knytkalas.

Terms and conditions

Last updated: 2026-08-21

These terms cover using Knytkalas.net itself — what the Service is, what's expected of you as a user, and what you can and can't hold us responsible for.

  1. Acceptance

By creating an account or using Knytkalas.net, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
  2. What the Service is

Knytkalas.net is a student project (graduation project at Yrkeshögskolan i Borås) that helps hosts and guests organize potluck-style events: creating events, sending invites, tracking RSVPs, and coordinating food contributions.
  3. Accounts

You sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for keeping that account secure, and for the accuracy of the information you provide: Your own name, and any event, guest, or contribution details you enter.
  4. Entering information about other people

As a host, you may enter information on behalf of guests (e.g. when creating an invite). Only do this for people who have actually agreed to be invited, and only with information they are comfortable being shared with the other event participants.
  5. Dietary and allergy information

Dietary flags and allergy tags in Knytkalas.net are entered by users, not verified by the Service. They are a coordination tool, not a guarantee. If you or a guest has a serious allergy or medical dietary requirement, always confirm directly with whoever is preparing the food and seek adequate medical advice whenever needed. Do not rely on the app alone. Knytkalas.net is not liable for reactions or harm resulting from inaccurate, missing, or outdated dietary information.
  6. Your content

You keep ownership of what you enter (event details, contributions, etc.). By entering it, you give the Service permission to display it to the other people involved in that event, for as long as your account or the event exists.
  7. Acceptable use

Do not use the Service to harass anyone, impersonate someone else, or enter false, harmful, or illegal content. The Service can and will remove content or suspend accounts that do.
  8. Availability

This is a student project, not a commercial product with an uptime guarantee. The Service is likely to change, have downtime, and may be taken offline entirely — for example, after this graduation project is complete — without advance notice.
  9. No warranty, limited liability

The Service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the extent allowed by law, Knytkalas.net is not liable for any damages or losses arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to the food.
  10. Termination

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. Knytkalas.net will suspend or remove access for anyone who violates these terms. Content can be deleted by the Service at any time.
  11. Governing law

These terms are governed by Swedish law.
  12. Changes

I may update these terms as the Service changes. I'll update the "last updated" date above when I do.
